COVID-19: Farmer buries truckload of chickens alive in Belagavi

Belagavi: The Coronavirus outbreak has created a sense of panic among people across the country. Rumours circulating on social media state that the consumption of chicken could lead to spread of the virus which has severely impacted the chicken prices.
Following the massive decline in the chicken prices Rs 5- 10 per kg as compared to the Rs 50-70 per kg earlier, a farmer buried truckload of chickens alive in Belagavi District.
Najeer Ahmed dumped nearly 6,000 chickens into a truck before dumping them into a large pit at Nulsur in Gokak on Monday. He stated that earlier the Chicken prices were Rs 50-70 per kg and now it is as low as Rs 5- 10 per kg.
Najeer is the owner of a poultry farm in Gokak and he also shot a video of his act of burying the chickens in the pit. The video is being shared widely on social media and the netizens are unhappy with Najeer’s move.
Earlier, 9,500 chickens were buried alive at Bangarpur Taluk in Kolar district on a farm owned by Ramachandra Reddy. The operator of the farm Satish from Bengaluru cited losses of upto Rs 20,000 for the decision to bury the chickens.
Even though the health officials have repeatedly said that the Coronavirus is spread through the respiratory droplets transmitted from person to person, fake messages like these have still been circulating.
