COVID-19: Poultry farmer distributes free chicken to villagers

Belagavi: Amid the growing coronavirus scare and the accompanying rumours, a poultry farmer in the district distributed free chicken to the villagers at Uchagaon in Belagavi.
Reportedly, the villagers on receiving the information thronged at the poultry farmer’s shop to get free chicken.
The farmer started to distribute free chicken after the rumours started circulating on social media that the consumption of chicken could lead to the spread of the virus which has severely impacted the chicken prices.
It may be recalled that on Monday, March 9 a farmer buried truckload of chickens alive in Belagavi District. Najeer Ahmed dumped nearly 6,000 chickens into a truck before dumping them into a large pit at Nulsur in Gokak on Monday. He stated that earlier the Chicken prices were Rs 50-70 per kg and now it is as low as Rs 5- 10 per kg.
