Mangaluru: The Southern Railway has expressed confidence that it will be able to complete the excavation of the tunnel at Kulashekara on the Mangaluru Junction-Jokatte section of the Mangaluru-Mumbai railway line in four months and completing the doubling work on the Mangaluru Junction-Panambur line by March 2021.
The 600-metre tunnel which passes under the National Highway 169 was sanctioned in 2014 by then Railway Minister Sadananda Gowda in the railway budget.
The tunnel along with the double tracks is supposed to reduce the time of trains between Mumbai-Mangaluru and Mumbai-Hassan/Bengaluru.
