Dubai returnee with COVID-19 symptoms admitted to Wenlock hospital

Puttur: A suspected COVID-19 patient who recently arrived from Dubai has been kept under observation in Wenlock hospital, informed Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh.

The man, a resident of Vittal had arrived in Mangaluru on March 7. After he developed fever on Tuesday night he went to a private hospital here but did not disclose his identity and travel details.

Suspecting something amiss, the hospital staff enquired about the patient with his family and came to know that he had arrived from Dubai recently and duly notified the assistant commissioner here. They were advised to admit the patient to district hospital in Mangaluru. While an ambulance was being arranged to ferry the patient, he is said to have completed discharge formalities and left the hospital with his family members.

Upon inquiry, it was found that he was taken to Vittal hospital and then to Wenlock.

Meanwhile, Sindhu Rupesh informed that the throat swabs of the under observation patient have been collected and sent for test.

On Wednesday, 632 persons were screened in the district. As many as 689 people had been directed for home quarantine in the district so far. Eight people had completed the quarantine period. All the 14 samples sent have tested negative.

She further informed that Asha workers are visiting the houses to collect information on foreign returnees and also to create awareness on containing coronavirus.
