Lockdown in India: Here is the list of essential services available during the lockdown

In the wake of coronavirus outbreak, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a nation-wide lockdown for 21 days.

The announcement triggered panic-buying among the people of the country. However, Ministry of Home Affairs came out with a comprehensive list of essential services that will remain operational during the nationwide lockdown.

Modi said that people need not panic about availability of essential commodities and medicines during the 21-day nationwide lockdown as the Centre and various state governments will work together to ensure this.

Here is a list of essential services which will remain open during 21-day nationwide lockdown:

  • Ration shops, groceries, fruits and vegetables, dairy and milk booths, meat and fish, animal fodder. It is said that soon there might be some action taken to facilitate home delivery to minimise the movement of individuals outside their homes.
  • Police, home guards, civil defence, fire and emergency services, disaster management, and prisons.
  • Banks (limited services) insurance offices and ATMs.
  • Manufacturing units of essential commodities
  • Production units, which require continuous process after obtaining required permission
  • Internet services, broadcasting and cable services. IT and IT-enabled services only essential services, they are advised to work from home as much as possible
  • Delivery of all essential goods including food, pharmaceuticals, medical equipment through e-commerce
  • Transportation for essential goods only and Fire, law and order and emergency services.
  • Hotels, homestays, lodges and motels.
  • Petrol pumps, LPG and petroleum and gas retail and storage outlets
  • Power generation, transmission and distribution units and services
  • Capital and debt market services as notified by SEBI
  • Cold storage and warehousing services
  • Private security services
