In the wake of Coronavirus, The Council of Mangalore City Corporation has taken steps to prevent the spread of Covid-19 in the city.

MCC commissioner Shanady Ajith Kumar Hegde held a meeting of wholesalers to plan the smooth supply of essentials to the people on Thursday.

Speaking on the occasion, he said, the wholesalers of the city have been directed to supply essential goods to apartments in the city. Each apartment should prepare purchase details and must hand it over to the wholesalers. This way residents will not have to go out to buy essentials. The purchasing time will be between 6 am to 12 pm.

MCC will release the list of all wholesalers through media. Eight outlets of hopcoms have agreed to sell vegetables and fruits. NGOs are working on supplying food to beggars in the city, he added.

Meanwhile, speaking regarding the precautionary measures, he said that, PM Modi has asked nation for a 21 days lock down. But, people are still not taking the lockdown seriously. We are having a hard time preventing the crowd in certain places. We have already communicated with the people regarding the precautionary measures.

A whatsapp group of all 10 commissioners have been created by the directions of Urban Development minister, Byrati Basavaraj and the directions are given to us through it, he added

Hegde further said, We have created a task force in Mangaluru to keep a tab on those who come out of their houses. It has 20 teams under 3 executive engineers. Each team will comprise of 4 members and 1 police officer. The team will carry out city rounds in the vehicle provided to them.
