Bengaluru: Police on Friday had to resort to lathicharge for dispersing the huge crowd gathered in front of the BBMP office in Kamalanagar here to collect free milk without adhering to social distancing norms.
On Wednesday, BS Yediyurappa had announced free distribution of milk to the poor facing hardship during the lockdown in the state.
As the lorry containing Nandini milk packets arrived at the BBMP office, people rushed to the spot to collect the same. Chaos prevailed at the scene despite police trying to control the crowd.
As the people started arguing over need for maintaining social distance, the police had to lathicharge them to bring situation under control.
A senior police officer said that it was not only the needy but even the financially well-off crowded at the spot to collect free milk.
