Covid 19: State govt postpones mass marriage programme

Bengaluru: Minister for Muzrai, Port and Fisheries Kota Srinivas Poojary on Tuesday, April 7 informed that the first phase of the mass marriage ‘Saptapadi,’ slated to be held on April 26 has been postponed due to the coronavirus lockdown.
Speaking to reporters here Poojary said that the first phase of mass marriage is likely to be clubbed with the second phase to be held on May 24.
The date of the mass marriage will be announced after assessing the COVID-19 situation in the state, said Poojary.
The state government had proposed to conduct the mass marriage scheme at select Muzrai temples in two phases on April 26 and May 24. Around 2000 applications with due documents were received for mass marriage from those who wished to tie the nuptial knot.
The Department had made all preparations for conducting the mass marriage.
