Bengaluru: The number of Covid 19 cases in the country has shown a steep increase in the last few days. As per the last update by Union Health Ministry, over 5300 cases of COVID 19 has been detected so far and the death toll stands at 169. Karnataka state itself has a reported 175 coronavirus cases.

As the situation continues to remain grim, the Karnataka Health Department in a tweet on Wednesday stressed on importance of lockdown and social distancing to check the spread of the virus.

Citing an ICMR study, which reveals that a covid 19 patient can infect 406 people in 30 days, the state health department in a tweet appealed to citizens to not play into the hands of the virus.

“ICMR study suggests ‘1 positive person can infect 406 people in 30 days, if lockdown & social distancing are not in place, but if social exposure is reduced by 75% then one sick person will only be able to infect only 2.5 persons.’ Let’s not play into the hands of the virus,” reads the tweet on the official handle.
