Mangaluru: Amid the 21-day lockdown an ambulance driver was caught ferrying 20 labourers, who were reportedly stranded in Mangaluru to Vijayapura on Wednesday, April 8. The check post police at Balehonnur in Chikkamagaluru district seized the ambulance.
The labourers, including 8 children and the ambulance drivers were subjected to a health check up and have been placed under quarantine at NR Pura.
It is gathered that the ambulance driver had transported a patient requiring medical treatment from Davangere to a hospital in Mangaluru and while returning back he came across the stranded labourers. He agreed to ferry them to Vijayapura in exchange for money.
The driver charged each person Rs 1500 to take them to their native, said one of the labourers.
