Fact Check: Is Govt reducing employees’ pension by 30% amid Covid-19 crisis?

India is under a lockdown due to coronavirus, and several messages and media reports regarding the government pensions were being circulated in social media.
One among them is that the government may slash employees’ pension by 30% amid coronavirus crisis in the country.
However, Press Information Bureau rubbished the rumors and clarified on twitter that the news of government slashing employees’ pension by 30% is fake.

It is said that, the news went viral after the Union Cabinet promulgated an ordinance to reduce the salaries, allowances and pensions of MPs by 30 per cent for a year.
