Mangaluru: Around 25,000 quintals of brown rice have been released to the Dakshina Kannada district to be distributed for ration cardholders.
Brown rice had been unavailable in the district. As there is a huge demand for it, district in-charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary requested for it and accordingly, the Department of Food and Civil Supplies released it.
The ration distribution in the district had started on April 1 for the months of April and May. Due to the shortage of brown rice, white rice was being distributed to ration cardholders.
