Bhatkal: Police detained and marked three people with the quarantine stamp at the Abdul Rahim Athar mosque at Hebale near here on Monday, April 20 for performing namaz in the mosque in contravention of the lockdown guidelines.
SP Shivaprakash Devaraju stated that as per the guidelines, only a mosque’s imam and two other subordinates are allowed to perform namaz in a mosque, the three detained were not the imam or the mosque’s staff.
Locals, however, alleged bias and harassment by the police.
Many imams appointed to perform namaz in the mosques reside away from the mosques, therefore, sometimes, the local residents perform namaz in the mosque.
