Zero-tolerance for violence against COVID-19 warriors: Kota Srinivas Poojary

Mangaluru: In the backdrop of attacks on Corona warriors, district in-charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary on Wednesday, April 22 said that anyone found guilty of abusing and assaulting doctors, police and ASHA workers will be booked under the Goonda Act.

“Such assaults are a serious offense and we have zero-tolerance towards them. The lathi and revolver with police is not for display but for self-defense. Attacks on them will not be tolerated and tough action will be taken on the attackers,” Poojary said.

The minister was speaking at a program held at Mangaluru Press Club here wherein grocery items donated by SCDCC bank was distributed to members of the D K District Working Journalists Association.

Poojary said that everyone’s co-operation is must to contain the spread of COVID-19.

“Henceforth, no instances of assault on corona warriors must take place,” he warned.

Additionally, Poojary said that as a precautionary measure, journalists will be screened for coronavirus as they too are at risk of the infection.

Speaking on the occasion, SDCCC Bank Chairman Dr. MN Rajendra Kumar said that maintaining social distancing is the need of the hour. “Migrant laborers, poor and needy have been badly affected by the lockdown.
We must help them in any possible manner in this time of crisis. SCDCC Bank is ready to provide necessary assistance in this regard,” Kumar said.

MLAs Vedavyas Kamath and Dr. Bharat Shetty were among those present at the program.
