Mangaluru: Localities oppose cremation of second COVID-19 casualty

Mangaluru: The District Administration have completed the cremation in the late hours of Kaikunje in BC Raad. despite of a lot of backlash from localities in the city on Thursday, 23.
Dakshina Kannada recorded second death due to COVID-19 on Thursday and the deceased was a 75-year-old woman from Bantwal and mother-in-law of COVID-19 patient who passed away in April 19.
Many localities at most parts of the city demanded the body to cremated at some other place as it was a casualty due to COVID-19. Even after the police opposition, they remained resolute on their stand.
The district administration took the body to Bolur burial ground and large members gathered there opposed the burial. Then they shifted the body to Panachady Burial ground and MLA Br. Y Bharath Shetty along with many localities gathered in front of the burial ground and opposed to cremating the body in his constituency.
Later the evening, a large number of locals living near Shaktinagar, Moodshedde, Padavinangadi, Sajipa, and Kanchinadka burial grounds protested to prevent the burial after rumors that officials planning to cremate the body in any one burial grounds in city limits soon.
The District Administration has taken the body to Kaikunje near BC Road and cremated the body with police protection.
People have gathered in large numbers violating lockdown rules and without maintaining social distancing.
