Akshaya Tritiya: Jewellery retailers take gold sales online amid lockdown

Mangaluru/Udupi: Akshaya Tritiya is just around the corner and due to the lockdown all the jewellery shops will be closed. But, some jewellers are offering online offers to their customers. While direct purchase from jewellery shops will not be possible due to the lockdown, online products are expected to see traction.

Various jewellers of the district have now gone digital. Joe Alukkas and Jos Alukkas of Mangalore and G.L.Acharya in Puttur have announced offers for online purchases.In Udupi, Abharan and Gujjadi Jewellers have switched to online.

Last year, 25 kg gold and 100 kg silver were sold and the jewellers are expecting the same this year even though the shops are closed.

Also, government has launched the first tranche of the Sovereign Gold Bond Scheme (SGB) for the current financial year. The subscription is open till April 24, 2020.
