Bengaluru: Former chief minister Siddaramaiah on Friday, April 24 demanded action against BLP MLA Bharath Shetty for reportedly backing the public protest against the cremation of the 75-year-old COVID-19 victim from Bantwal in their area.

Taking to Twitter, Siddaramaiah said that MLA Bharat Shetty’s act of preventing cremation of #Covid19 victim is both illegal and inhuman.

Citing the ordinance brought out by Centre to protect #Covid19 frontline workers, including those involved in cremation procedures, Siddaramaiah urged BS Yediyurappa to set a precedent by take immediate action against him and set the precedence.

Meanwhile Bharath Shetty denined reports that he had objected to the cremation at Pachanady. There will not be any danger to the local people if COVID-19 victims are cremated in their places, he said in a post on social media.

The final rites of the woman from Kasba village were held at the Hindu Rudrabhoomi at Kaikunje near Bantwal town, about 30 kms from here, on Thursday night under strict police protection, even as local people who feared risk to their health raised protests, they said.
