Kota: State’s Yakshagana Academy has come to the aid of the artists in distress due to cancellation of all Yakshagana festivals during the lockdown.

The academy spends lakhs every year from the money sanctioned to it on training new artists, performances and documentation. However, no such activity was undertaken due to COVID-19. Hence, the academy is discussing to transfer a large amount of money to Yaksha artists as emergency aid.

The Academy president Prof M A Hegde stated that along with this aid the grants donated by the public and Yakshagana admirers too could be given to the artists.

The Academy has also compiled a list of 699 artists and trainers which it has sent to the Kannada and Culture Department. These artists will be receiving Rs 2,000 in their accounts from the Department.
