Mangaluru: Migrant workers leave to Jharkhand in special train

Mangaluru: Migrant workers from Jharkhand in the city are heaving a sigh of relief as a special train left Mangaluru Junction railway station to their state with on Saturday, May 9.

BJP State president Nalin Kumar Kateel and MLA Vedavyasa Kamath were present at the railway station.

Earlier, deputy commissioner Sindhu P Rupesh had informed that train service for migrant workers to travel to other states will begin from Saturday.

Speaking with this regard deputy commissioner Sindhu P Rupesh said, “We have arranged railway services for migrant workers and those who have registered themselves online on Seva Sindhu will undergo necessary tests.

“There is no need for migrant workers to voluntarily
come and gather at the railway station. We will make all necessary arrangements for their travel to their respective destinations,” she added.

It may be recalled that thousands of migrant workers who have been stranded in the city since the lockdown gathered at Mangaluru’s central railway station in the hope that trains had been arranged for their departure.
