Shramik Spl trains depart from M’luru for UP & Bihar

Mangaluru: As many as 2300 migrant labourers boarded the Shramik special trains to return to their native states from Mangaluru Junction here on Sunday May 10.
Two more trains, with 1,150 passengers each left for Uttar Pradesh and Bihar at 2 pm and 5 pm respectively today. Earlier yesterday the first Shramik special train from Mangaluru departed for Jharkhand with migrant labourers.
The district administration made arrangements for the labourers to be brought to the station, via KSRTC operated buses, after subjecting them to medical tests. It is gathered that ticket fare of Rs 960 each was to be paid by the migrants.
Till date, 5,000 migrant workers from Jharkhand, 3,000 from Uttar Pradesh and 4,000 from Bihar have registered online on the State Government’s Seva Sindhu portal to return to their natives.
On May 8, several migrants had gathered outside Mangaluru’s Central Railway station amid rumours that trains had been arranged for their departure. They even held protests here.
