Gangavathi: Workers of Sriramanagar APMC in the taluk here staged a protest in front of the APMC office against the privatization of the State’s APMCs.
Speaking at the protest site, APMC Director Reddy Srinivas stated that the central government is interfering in the subjects of agriculture and Horticulture which is listed in the State Subjects in the Constitution.
He added that the government through an ordinance has amended the rules of APMC under which only APMC license holding traders were allowed to buy from farmers. This, he says, is an injustice to the farmers and will make them, APMC workers and traders open to exploitation by large corporates.
He warned that if Chief Minister Yediyurappa does not withdraw the ordinance then they will start a State-wide agitation.
