Over 40k migrant workers have registered on SevaSindhu portal: DC

Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada Deputy commissioner on Wednesday May 13 said that district administration is making arrangements for transportation of migrant workers to their native place.

So far 500 buses has ferried nearly 12700 people to 25 districts in the state. Inter-state travel to districts of Gadag, Bagalkote, Vijayapura districts has been facilitated, the DC told reporters.

On the issue of migrant workers from other states, the DC said that as many as 40,510 people have registered on the online SevaSindhu portal. She further added that a large number of migrant workers in the district hail from Jharkhand.

“We have not yet received in-principle nod from Jharkhand. The state government has taken up the issue with them,” Sindhu added.

To maintain social distancing only 1460 persons are allowed to travel in a train. Around 6,000 workers from Jharkhand have registered on the portal. The government is facilitating return of migrants, the DC said while urging migrants not to listen to rumours.
