Bengaluru: Former top cop K Annamalai, hailed as ‘Singham’ of Karnataka, is all set to hang up his boots and take a plunge into politics.

An engineer with an MBA degree from IIM-Lucknow, Annamalai on Sunday, May 17 in a Facebook live revealed that he will be entering politics. He also added that he will be contesting the election from his home town in Tamil Nadu in 2021.

“I miss you Karnataka. The people of Karnataka were very kind to me and I will always be thankful for them. I want to join politics so that I can serve the people,” he added.

He further added, “I had served in the police department for ten years and I resigned because I wanted to spend some time with my family and help people. Therefore I have decided to join politics and will be contesting the election next year.”

It may be recalled that in May 2019 in an open letter to his friends, the officer Annamalai had said that he has taken the decision to resign after contemplating for about six months

“Last year, my visit to Kailash Manasarovar was an eyeopener as it helped me to see my priorities in life better. Madhukar Shetty sir’s life in a way made me re-examine my own life. All good things had to come to an end and I have decided now my time in khaki is done,” he said referring to the death of his senior colleague Shetty, who died in December.

His upright and strict method of enforcing the law and dealing with anti-social elements earned him the sobriquet ‘Singham of Karnataka’.

He is much loved and respected in the coastal region, especially in Udupi where he ably served the common people with courtesy and dealt with trouble-makers with an iron fist.
