Mysuru: The cultural capital of Karnataka has been rated 5 star of the garbage free cities by the Union Ministry for Housing and Urban Affairs.
A total of six cities (Ambikapur, Rajkot, Surat, Mysuru, Indore and Navi Mumbai) were awarded this rating.
The Ministry had started the Star Rating Protocol in January 2018 to “institutionalize a mechanism for cities to achieve Garbage Free status.” The 5 star rating is given to cities based on the cleanliness of drains & water bodies, plastic waste management, managing construction & demolition waste, etc.
Mysuru is the only city from southern India.
Reacting to this achievement, Mysuru district Deputy Commissioner Abhiram G. Sankar complimented Mysuru City Corporation. While the city’s Municipal Commissioner commended the city’s Health Department and Pourakarmikas for their effort in achieving the 5 star rating.
Additionally, Corporation’s Health Officer Dr D G Nagaraju thanked the city’s residents and volunteer organisations in thier effort in achieving this laurel.
