Mangaluru: The construction of a barrier wall around the Pachanady garbage landfill at the cost of Rs 4.5 crore will start soon.
In August last year, the slimy garbage from the landfill flowed with the rainwater and enter many houses and settled places causing large damages to property and about 3 acres of cultivable land.
The wall will be built in 2 months claimed the City Corporation.
The construction work should have commenced earlier however due to the elections to the Corporation and the COVID-19 lockdown delayed it.
Moreover, the Corporation also decided to acquire the land damaged by the garbage flow last year. However, it will be voluntary as land will be bought from those who are willing to sell their unusable land.
