Vocal For Local: DyCM lauds SWR’s gesture of gifting Channapattana toys to migrant kids

Bengaluru: In a noble initiative the South Western Railway (SWR) zone has been distributing Channapattana toys to the children of migrant labourers, who departed to their hometowns on the Shramik special trains from Bengaluru here.

For kids going by Shramik Trains, we have arranged Channpatana Toys.These are GI tagged and quite popular among children, made of wood nd natural colour,so safe and good for children. It will also give sm additional business to local toy makers and artists, tweeted railways on its official handle

This will promote local artisan. But the most important thing is to create awareness of brand Channpatana Toys across the world. All are requested to spread the message across seven seas, on all platforms. Let us sell these toys on Amazon in USA and Europe, read another tweet.

As many as 700 Channapattana toys were distributed among migrant kids, under ‘Put the Smile Back’ initiative to make their journey enjoyable and memorable.

The initiative was launched on Tuesday by Ashok Kumar Verma, Divisional Railway Manager said the zonal railway spokesperson.

Deputy Chief Minister Dr Ashwathnarayan has appreciated the gesture from the railways and said that it was a meaningful contribution .for the VocalForLocal call given by Prime Minister Modi.

“Channapatna toys are India’s pride from Namma Karnataka! A meaningful contribution for PM Shri @narendramodi ji’s #VocalForLocal mantra. I greatly appreciate this wonderful gesture by @drmsbc,” he tweeted.

Channapattana toys have a history dating back to the Mysore ruler, Tipu Sultan, who is said to have encouraged Persian artisans to settle down here and develop the craft.
