Shimoga: A farmer-cum-cartoonist in the taluk’s Gajanur village, has amazed the entire village by growing a large sweet potato weighing 25 kilograms in the backyard farm of his home.
Nagendra Yellapura has been growing sweet potatoes since long with his father Halskhanda Ramachandra Bhatt.
A friend of Nagendra’s father had given the sweet potato to him who had brought it from Kerala. The sweet potato variety is called ‘Negilu Genasu’ (plough sweet potato) due to it being shaped as a plough.
This tuber variety takes 6 months with just a 6-inch stalk to grow and weigh between 15 to 35 kilograms.
