Amid the construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya, five-foot Shivaling, seven pillars of black touchstone, six pillars of red sandstone and broken idols of Devi-Devtas were found at the temple site.

According to the legend, Sri Vadiraja Swamyas brought the idols of Muhkyaprana and Garuda four hundred centuries ago to Udupi Shri Krishna Math.

It is said that in 1538-39, the Vadiraja traveled to the Vijayanagara Empire. In 1541-42, he embarked on an expedition to North India and later went to Ayodhya and after excavation he brought the idol of Hanuma-Garuda in 1545.

A few sources claim that, In treta Yuga, During Lord Ram’s Pattabhishekam in Dasharatha’s Palace, Hanuman idol was placed on the right and Garuda’s idol was placed on the left. Vadiraja was aware of this and that is why he went and excavated the idols.

It is also quoted in the Vadiraja Guru Charitamrit: Punaḥ sancaraṇsakto gato yodhyam purim muniḥ| tatratyahanumattakṣa pratima rupyapiṭhakam
