Mangaluru: MLA UT Khader on Saturday, May 23 expressed confusion over Sunday Curfew ordered by the government of Karnataka and has sought revised guidelines.
“Under Lockdown 4.0, Karnataka Government has decided to enforce a total lockdown on May 24 and May 31 Sundays by suspending all relaxation, including public transport services and closure of shops. Only essential services will be allowed while a curfew will be in effect the whole day to restrict the movement of people. On the other hand Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa and Chief Secretary, Government of Karnataka Vijaya Bhaskaran has issued fresh guidelines yet again stating that Marriage events that were already scheduled on Sunday will be considered as a special case as per government guidelines,” said UT Khader in a series of tweet.
He further added,” I have spoken over the call with Vijay Bhaskar to clarify on the same and he has assured that he will discuss further with the concerned officials and take appropriate decision on Sunday Curfew. As per Government of Karnataka guidelines the district administration
can implement it.”
“Curfew has been imposed effective from 7 pm on Saturday, May 23 till 7 am on Monday, May 25. When and how people can move around in DK District during curfew hours? Will they be allowed to go for grocery shopping? Can people walk to the shop next to their house? Will an individual be allowed to move from point A to B within the district without being stopped by the police or facing legal action ?” he questioned.
“As city police Commissioner Harsha has imposed prohibitory orders under Sec 144 banning assembly of four or more people in one place. Moreover several Mangaluru NGOs have been confused about the controversial guidelines issued by the Government of Karnataka and the district administration has already ordered lockdown in the district from 7 pm on Saturday, May 23 till 7 am on Monday, May 25,” said Khader.
He further informed, “NGOs have urged me to clarify regarding the same as Eid-ul -Fitr falls on Sunday if curfew is imposed then what are the guidelines to be followed by the people. They have also have requested to kindly make alternate arrangements for the people’s movement to allow at least three to four people in a group to walk out to buy essential services and distribution of food for the needy on EID-UL-FITR.”
“I’m waiting for instructions from Vijaya Bhaskaran on the same so that the district administration can follow the revised guidelines issued by the government of Karnataka,” he said.
