Thiruvananthapuram: With the total COVID-19 tally in Kerala crossing the one thousand mark on Wednesday, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan urged people to act as “warriors” in the battle against the coronavirus and inform authorities on those flouting quarantine norms.

“If those in quarantine are defying the guidelines, the local people should immediately inform the health authorities and also advise them,” Vijayan said. The state has been witnessing a huge jump in cases since the past few days as there has been an influx of returnees from abroad and other states to Kerala.

“In the matter of expatriates, whether they come from abroad or other states, those wanting to come, we will welcome them, that is the government”s policy,” Vijayan told reporters here. However, they need to strictly follow the guidelines of the government with regard to home and institutional quarantine, he said.

Kerala reported 40 fresh cases on Wednesday, including 37 returnees from abroad and other states.

The number of coronavirus cases in the state has touched 1,004, while 445 people are undergoing treatment in various hospitals and over 1.07 lakh people under observation.

Three people have been infected through contact, and ten have been cured of the infection and discharged from hospitals, Vijayan told reporters here today.
