Mangaluru: Days after miscreants scribbled ‘Freedom fighter Veer Savarkar Flyover’ over Bengaluru’s Yelahanka flyover in Kannada, a banner with Veer Savarkar’s image was found pasted on the sidewalls of the Pumpwell flyover in Mangaluru on Tuesday, June 2 evening.
Notably, Bajrang Dal has been scribbled in Kannada next to the banner that reads ‘Veer Savarkar Flyover Pumpwell.
Reacting to this development, Congress MLA UT Khader said that the district administration must initiate action against the miscreants. Pointing out that the Pumpwell circle was named as ‘Mahaveera Circle’, Khader said that strict action must be taken any person who is trying to disrupt the communal harmony in the region through such acts.
Even after completion of the flyover, the Kalasa that earlier adorned the circle is still kept there. Presently it is in a state of neglect, he added.
Khader further alleged that if the local MLA and district in-charge minister do not investigate the matter it implies that they were hand in glove with the miscreants.
It maybe recalled that the naming of the Yelahanka flyover, that was to be named after freedom fighter Veer Savarkar was put on hold after opposition leaders voiced their discontent against the government decision. Meanwhile the BBMP sought public response on naming of the Yelahanka flyover by June 20.
