Bengaluru: Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) officials on Friday, June 5 said that the news of tremors in the Hampi was a result of an auto-triggered event/unvalidated report.
“The earthquake with 4.0 magnitude in Hampi was due to a technical glitch,” they said.
“No earthquake event was recorded in the KSNDMC Earthquake Monitoring Stations network. The nearest such observation is taken from Tungabhadra dam Seismic observatory, Hospet taluk,” stated a KSNDMC official.
Officials said that software that is meant to monitor and report earthquakes might encounter such spike which results in an invalid report.
Earlier, an earthquake measuring 4.0 on the Richter Scale was reported in Hampi at 6.55 am.
Similar to Karnataka, a 4.7 magnitude earthquake had rocked Jharkhand’s Jamshedpur and no reports of any damage reported.
