“It was unintentional”, says Photographer whose Photo crashed thousands of Android Phones

Over the last week, a wallpaper photo has been making the rounds on social media and certain aspects of the image trigger an inescapable, repeating crash in Android’s system UI, and most recent Android phones are likely susceptible, including Samsung phones and Google’s Pixels. The wallpaper was referred to as the “cursed” wallpaper

Scientist and photographer Gaurav Agrawal captured  a gorgeous last minute sunset, edited the photo and published it on Flickr. But, little did he know the picture will cause such a big mess.

Gaurav Agarwal said, “ I didn’t do anything intentionally. I am sad that people ended up having issues.”

Sources claim that Agarwal took the photo with a Nikon camera and later edited it in Adobe Lightroom. He picked a particular colour-mode option while exporting the photo, resulting in the glitch that broke some Android phones.

However, it is said that the bug arises because the Android system can’t handle the colour space and the main issue is that SystemUI only handles sRGB images for the wallpaper and doesn’t have any check against non-sRGB wallpapers
