Manipal: Dr Venkatesh new VC of MAHE, Dr Vinod Bhat executive vice president

Manipal: Retired Lieutenant General Dr M D Venkatesh has been appointed as the new Chancellor of the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE). Present Chancellor Dr Vinod Bhat has been appointed as the Executive Vice President of MAHE. Both will take office on July 1.
Dr Ramdas M Pai in a statement has said the selection committee has finalised the name of Dr Venkatesh to the post of Chancellor. Dr Venkatesh has been the Chancellor of Sikkim-Manipal University and will retire from there on June 30. He has immense experience in the field of education. During his tenure at Sikkim-Manipal University, he had achieved all-round development there. Due to his administrative expertise, Sikkim-Manipal University has been recognized as one of the highest private university in the country.
Dr Venkatesh completed his MBBS degree from Mysore Medical College in 1978 and had joined the Army Medical Corps. He received his MS degree in ENT from Mumbai University in 1986 and has been trained in cochlear implantation and neurotology in many countries.
Dr Venkatesh had served in the Indian Army’s educational institutions for 38 years performing many administrative responsibilities. He made unique contributions to the field of medical education during this period. He has also served on various committees of Medical Council of India, Indian Council of Medical Research.
Dr Venkatesh’s wife Kusuma Venkatesh is also an expert in the education sector. They have two daughters, one lives in America and other in Mumbai.
