Youth assaults postman, threatens police with iron rod

Mangaluru: Barke police have registered a case against a youth on charges of assaulting a postman and threatening police personnel with an iron rod at Matadakani here on Monday, June 16.

The accused identified as Manish has gone absconding after the incident.

The victim, Dinesh (49), a resident of Kotekar had gone to deliver a registered letter to Manish when the latter began abusing him and assaulted him with an iron rod. Dinesh managed to escape from the spot whereafter Manish unleashed his anger by damaging the postman’s bike and scattering all the letters.

Locals called the police but when they arrived at the spot Manish threatened them too with an iron rod.

A complaint was lodged by Dinesh alleging a loss of Rs 35,000.
