SSLC exam: 956 students appear for Tulu exam

Bantwal: With the view to develop the Tulu language, the State government had allowed the language in SSLC examinations as a third language exam from the first batch of 2014-15. This year 956 students appeared for the Tulu examination.
In 2019-20, 2,600 students from 6the standard to 10th standard in 42 schools in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts have selected Tulu as their third language.
The first batch of 18 students started in 2014-15 at Pompe school in Mangaluru. In 2015-16, 25 students appeared for the exam, while in the third batch, 283 students from 12 schools were studying Tulu.
Puttur taluk has the largest number of Tulu-learning students and Belthangady the 2nd largest. This time a maximum of 197 students will appear for the SSLC exam at Government High School in Venuru.
Tulu Sahitya Academy President Dayananda Katalsar stated that more and more students are getting interested in learning the Tulu language. The Academy also pays teachers teaching Tulu in schools.
