Mysuru: The owners of the city’s well-known theatre Shantala have decided to shut down the theatre.
Known as an entertainment hub in the city, Shantala theatre was started back in 1974 and the owners have taken a site in the Chamaraja Double road for lease to build the theatre.
As per sources, the lease period is over now and the owners of the property decided to utilize the site for some other work and will close the doors of the theatre.
Owner of the theatre, NP Padaki said, “Due to COVID-19 lockdown, we don’t have any shows now and we don’t have any income. We are unable to pay the cost of electricity, maintenance, staff salaries, rents. etc., We will shut down the theatre this month and don’t have any plan to restart this venture. There is no profit in running a single screen theatre as well.”
Many movie lovers who had been watching movies in this theatre were unhappy about the news.
It is a sad thing that a theatre that entertained many people for decades would add to history books.
