Vijayapura: Youth dies outside SSLC exam centre; family allege police assault

Vijayapura: A 18-year-old youth who was waiting outside the SSLC examination centre at Hoovina Hipparagi here died of a cardiac arrest allegedly after being assaulted by the police.
The deceased has been identified as Sagar Chalavadi of Kanal village of Basavana Bagewadi taluk in Vijayapura district. . He had reportedly gone to drop his sister, a SSLC student at the Vishwachetana School examination centre.
As per reports, the police suspected that he was throwing answer chits inside the exam hall and tried to nab him. Sagar collapsed while trying to escape the police. He was taken to a health centre where he was declared brought dead.
Meanwhile Sagar’s family members claimed that the police caned him. Sagar who has a heart ailment was unable to bear the atrocity and died of a cardiac arrest. He was not involved in any malpractice, they stated.
