In big spike, Dakshina Kannada adds 97 Covid +ve cases, tally rises to 663

Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada reported 97 new Covid 19 cases on Sunday, June 28 taking tally of those infected in the district to 663.

Among the new cases today, 30 are overseas travelers while remaining 67 cases includes primary contacts of those infected earlier and patients with SARI and ILI symptoms.

Earlier in the day, three deaths were reported taking the death toll in district to 13. Out of the 13 deaths, two were due to non-Covid issues.

Till date 422 patients have been discharged and 238 cases are active.

Meanwhile there was protest to the burial of a Covid victim from Idya at Bolar cemetry. The locals reasoned that while they did not have objection to burial of Covid 19 victims, they were opposed to burial of non-Bolar residents here.

Upon persuasion from officials, they relented and allowed the burial to be conducted.
