Udupi: Udupi Deputy Commissioner G Jagadeesha on Monday visited the Hejamady examination centre and interacted with the SSLC students appearing for the examinations.

The DC said that even though a girl who appeared for exams at the centre tested positive for coronavirus, all the students have displayed courage to appear for the exam at the centre.

He reassured that the district administration as well as the education department would ensure safety of the students and that there was no reason for panic.

The SSLC student contracted the virus through her father and not at the centre. The girl is in good health and will appear for the examinations at a later date, Jagadeesha told reporters.

Allaying fears of transmission of the virus to other students, the DC said that infection spreads only if a person is in contact with an infected person for more than six hours. Following the incident, we are maintaining a six feet distance among students in this centre unlike the three feet distance maintained at other examination centres.

Vishalakshi Putran, Hejamady gram panchayat president, Sudhakar Karkera, vice president and others were present.
