Govt of India bans 59 Chinese apps: Here’s what will happen to your apps now

Team Udayavani, Jun 30, 2020, 6:33 PM IST

The government of India has banned 59 apps with links to China to ensure safety and sovereignty of Indian cyberspace.

The ban comes just days after it was reported that the government had received an advisory from intelligence agencies against the use of the apps, many of them with links to China

Now, the question is what will happen next?

Sources claim  that the government officials are in the process of informing all Indian internet service providers (ISPs) and telecom service providers (TSPs) who would be blocking all data and internet traffic to and from these apps.

As most of the apps function online, all of the apps that have been banned would by default become non-functional.

Also, none of these apps would receive any developer support in India. As a result of which, users who have already downloaded these apps would not be able to access app downloads

Moreover, the Indian  users will not be able to update the apps which will lead to the non- functionality of the app.

However, it is said that if a user moves out of Indian network space to countries where these apps are still legally operational, they may be able to use the app.
