Mangaluru: Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa has instructed Rs 5 lakh compensation to each of the families of the two children who died in a landslide at Gurupur’s Banglagudde.
Speaking to reporters, the chief minister expressed his sadness over the incident and said that people residing in 19 houses in the area, about 118 people, have been shifted to a nearby government school, village panchayat hall and hostel. The work on evacuating the remaining 60 households was also in progress.
With all the efforts of the NDRF, the fire department, the local police and the district administration, the lives of the two children could not be saved. I pray to god that the souls of the dead will find peace and give strength to the family of the deceased, he said.
The family of the deceased has already received Rs 5 lakh each. I have also instructed the district administration to relocate the people living in the area to nearby Bondantilla village and construct houses for them in the land identified in survey no. 102 in the village.
