Madikeri: Karnataka Rakshana Vedike performed the last rites of a man whose family refused to do it.
The man identified as Yousuf (68) was born as Varghese and converted to Islam. He was living alone at Gopalapura village in Somwarpet taluk here. His family lives in Mangaluru.
Yousuf died at the Kodagu district hospital on July 4. The hospital had moved his dead body to the hospital’s mortuary after no one came to claim it.
When the Vedike learnt about it through a post on a social networking website, they approached Yousuf’s family. When there was no response from them, they decided to cremate him.
