Bengaluru: Reeling under huge financial loses even before the economic crisis induced by the COVID-19 pandemic the State’s three road transport corporations are mulling to send their staff on a one-year unpaid leave.
Shivayogi Kalasad, the Managing Director of Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation, has written to the chiefs of Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC), North West Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC) and North East Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NEKRTC) regarding this proposal.
Kalasad has written that as regular operation are stymied due to the COVID-19 pandemic and as all of the corporations are facing financial distress, it is proposed to grant one year leaves to employees without salary and benefits in view of their health.
Later, Kalasad stated that the leave would be conditional for those employees not in service due to limited operations and proving that they are pursuing ‘education.’ Those who go on leave will not be eligible for promotions.
Employees’ unions of these corporations have strongly opposed the move terming it illegal.
