‘Respond by July 22 or face permanent ban’: MEITY issues notice to Tik Tok, other Chinese mobile apps

New Delhi: A notice has been issued to the 59 Chinese apps, including TikTok to respond to the questionnaire sent by the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEITY) by July 22 or failing which they would be permanently banned in India.
The Centre recently banned these apps over security and privacy issues.
A list of 79 questions has been sent to the apps and it is learnt that their responses will be counter-checked with the intel inputs on the background and operations of these apps.
Details about their corporate origin, structure of parent companies, funding, data management, company practices and servers that are being used by them has been sought by the ministry.
