Mangaluru: A 75-year-old woman suffering from rheumatism died on Thursday, July 9 but her family could not perform her last rites as her COVID-19 test reports were awaited. She was later buried after a day-long wait when her test report arrived stating her to be positive for COVID-19.

The woman, a resident of Krishnapura at Surathkal was undergoing treatment for her condition from a private hospital. However, during her last visit to the hospital her physician advised her to take the COVID-19 test.

Following her physician’s advise he went to Wenlock for a test. However, she died on July 9 while her test reports had still not come. Health officials, however, could not allow the family to perform her final rites before the arrival of her test reports.

Hence, the family had to wait with the dead body for almost a day for her test reports. When it was confirmed she was positive for COVID-19 she was taken to Wenlock and later buried at a graveyard at Boloor.
