Bengaluru: City Police Commissioner Bhaskar Rao on Wednesday, July 15 ordered a ban on the online sale of liquor in the area till the end of lockdown.

Bhaskar’s order comes a day after tipplers thronged liquor stores in the city, with a senior state excise official claiming that Monday alone saw liquor worth Rs 230 crore being sold across Bengaluru.

“There was apparently a mad rush yesterday. India Made Foreign Liquor worth Rs 215.55 crore and 14.83 crores worth beer was sold…,” the officer said.

Apart from Bengaluru, Dharwad and Dakshina Kannada districts have also decided to impose lockdown for a period of nine days and seven days, respectively, starting Wednesday.

The BS Yediyurappa government has permitted shops selling essential items, such as milk, groceries, and vegetables, to operate from 5 am to 12 noon till the lockdown is in force. The lockdown order also stated that hotels and restaurants will be allowed to operate take-away or home-delivery of food items.
