Mangaluru: A dead left hand, slow speech and movement caused by a head injury 7 years ago could not stop Vignesh T Rao from achieving 500 marks in the second PUC examination in the Commerce stream.

Vignesh is the son of autorickshaw driver T Subramanya Rao and housewife Nalini S Rao.

A student of St Aloysius Evening College, Vignesh had a near-fatal accident when he was in the 5th standard in 2013. He had fallen from the first floor of his house on the gate and suffered a serious head injury after a sharp part on the gate hit his head.

After the accident, Vignesh lost his ability in his left hand and became slow in speech and movement. He started going to school shortly after his recovery.

However, after facing all of these problems Vignesh could still strike an academic achievement.

Vignesh had scored 72 per cent in his SSLC. He supposedly has a great ability to memorize and remembers the lessons read aloud to him by his parents.

Vignesh appeared for the PUC exams in the disabled category. A PUC Arts stream student Pritam Krishna was the scribe who wrote Vignesh’s exam as dictated by him.

Vignesh’s father has this to say about his son’s achievement: “I am proud of my son’s scores. He has stood tall over his physical disabilities. He is going to study Commerce. We will be supportive of his endeavours.”
