Moodbidri: As coronavirus COVID-19 cases are increasing, the health workers are working tirelessly to combat the outbreak are particularly vulnerable. In one such instance staff working in the hospitals at Moodbidri who come from Shirthady, Siddakatte, Venur, Sanoor, Kadandale, and Yedapadavu used to walk over 10 kilometer to do their duty, as the bus services in that region were halted due to lockdown.

In a bid to help such health workers, former minister, and partner in Sugama Travels, K Abhayachandra Jain has lent two of his MUVs to the staff of community health center and G V Pai Charitable Hospital in the Jain Kashi of South India for the entire duration of lockdown 1.0-5.0 and did so again when Dakshina Kannada district administration announced the weeklong lockdown from July 16.

Abhayachandra Jain’s primary business is public transport. After he got to know the plight of the health workers he decided to give his two MUVs that were lying idle at his home since lockdown to health workers and thus set an example to others.

Speaking to Udayavani Jain said, “After the lockdown was imposed in the nation all the public transportation vehicles remained off-road and health works in our city were affected the most. Nurses working in the community health center and G V Pai Charitable Hospital had to walk over 10 kilometers to reach their workplace, when I got to know about it, I decided to help them by lending my two MUVs along with the driver.”

“My main aim in life is to help people as much as I can. Health workers are risking their lives to treat people and this is the least I could do for them. This is a simple message to people that we are there from them,” said Jain.

He further requested people to treat everyone equally. “In this time of the pandemic, it is our responsibility to help others and treat everyone equally. We should make sure that we are there for each other. If your neighbors are tested positive for COVID-19 stop treating them like an outcast, instead treat them the same way that you would treat your family member if he/she tested positive,” added Jain.

Karnataka Congress too appreciated Jain for his selfless service.

“Congress leader and former minister K Abhayachandra Jain after learning about the plight of health workers who were walking over 3 kilometers to reach the hospital where they were working, lent his MUVs to the government hospitals in the area,” tweeted Karnataka Congress’s officials handle.

It may also be recalled that Jain had also held migrant laborers who were stranded in the town during lockdown 1.

They were taken care off by housing them at the Samaj Mandir for the better part of the lockdown until such time that Shramik Special trains and or buses started to transport these workers to their respective destinations.
