In the wake of the increasing number of SARI (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) COVID-19 cases of the district administration has requested the State government to provide ventilators for the treatment of such patients.
Ventilators and ICUs are not required for those with mild COVID-19 symptoms. But is necessary for SARI patients. District hospitals have been ordered not to take out-of-district SARI cases except those suffering from various major diseases, including cancer.
Presently, the district hospital, Kundapur and Karkala Taluk Hospitals, Dr TMA Pai Hospital has a total of 50 ventilators and 253 ICU beds.
From July 18 to 20, 12 new SARI cases have been detected in the district. 15 new ventilators have already been added to the district. The administration has sent a request for an additional 50 ventilators to the State government. These new ventilators will be set up at Karkala and Kundapur taluk hospital.
The ventilators in the district and the news ones to arrive will be enough to cover any drastic increase in SARI cases in the district.
